Someone can drive hours to get into college adays?

The question is actually quite simple. I graduated from high school in 2007 and worked full time for a year get some money for a car / school and am doing a home study course to obtain a certification from a personal trainer. I met my goals and now wants to go to school as soon as possible (after the fall). And 'I can to participate in winter? I am absolutely clueless about the process of application, deadlines, and how to get my parents are not able to help because they are very old and stuff back in their day was a bit 'different.
